What if excuse of “can’t find diverse talent” was no longer acceptable? A couple of talented folks were tired of that excuse. This led to the creation of c0ffe3.
You’re probably asking yourself two questions as you read this— 1) what is imposter syndrome and 2) what is an Elite Black? The first is a little easier to begin with as you’ve likely heard this term used before.
As I raised a point of how I have had potential clients who choose not to work with me because my prices are “too high”—yet I know from research and lived experiences that if I were a man they would likely not question my pricing—this accomplished woman turned to me and said, “You should always ensure your appearance is good. You know what I mean right? Dress up, look pretty, and presentable, then they will take you more seriously.”
In a society where people, especially women—particularly Black women—are bombarded with communication, actions, and inactions that tell them they are not welcomed, they are not valued, and they are not enough I amaze myself with how well—a term I use loosely—I continue to grow despite the negative impact that noise is supposed to bore within me.
Many have made the mistake of making mea culpa appeasements - freebies, discounts, kickbacks, you name it. Wrong! You're still running a business, and your product/service still has value - it just doesn't for that customer(s) any longer.
This is something I strongly believe in and perhaps you may too. Regardless of what your brain or gut determines, never accept anything that devalues you or what you're doing with your business. When you accept such things, you take away the added value your confidence, determination, and passion bring to the experience of being entrepreneurial—of being you.
